Ford Puma MILLENIUM

Thinking about selling my puma as it could do with a owner that will take care of the car as its it seem like a good one compared to what i have seen and would like it to go to someone who will look after it.

Its got just over 62k on the clock and has just passed its mot. As far as i can see it has never had any welding and is not full of rot. I can supply more photos soon if any one is interested in it. There are a few jobs needed to be done as you could expect of a car of this age mainly repainting the wheels. I can supply the mot history as well and has only ever failed on normal maintenance type jobs nothing major.

What to do. Restore or replace

What to do? Restore or replace?

I've looked at the 140bhp Fiesta 1.0 Ecosport but it doesn't seem any quicker or more fun than my 1.7 '97 Puma and is a bit pricey. Would love an ST but insurance would be costly and the ride too firm for my car-sick 7yo. My Puma runs very well and was virtually cost-free for the first 17 years. I've had a few things done recently (fuel pump most notably), and it's just sailed through its MOT.

Minor rust on one rear wheel arch, more on the other side, but less than any other Puma I've seen. Some minor rust in other places, but still too much for the image I should give when visiting customers of my business. Ed China could turn it into a gem :-)

I don't want to give up the fun drive of my Puma, but it needs a tidy-up for business use. Worried about ongoing costs, but don't want to spend 9k on something else fun to drive when I do less than 5,000 miles a year. I think Puma prices will increase in a few years as they become classic rarities.

    So, to the questions:

Do I go for body repairs, maybe a respray, and hope nothing major fails so I waste my money, or do I spend much more on a newer fun car?

How much would bodywork and paint cost, any ideas?

Hi All hoping someone can help me out I m part way through a Mk6 Fiesta...

Hi All, hoping someone can help me out. I'm part-way through a Mk6 Fiesta Trackcar build, with a 1.7VCT drivetrain from a Puma. I'm keeping the ABS for now, but can't find a brake pipe connection diagram anywhere.

I'm fitting the Puma ABS pump in the Fiesta shell, so just need to know on the Puma which inlet/outlet port goes to each wheel arch or to the Master Cylinder. I'm guessing the smaller ports are rears, but need confirmation.

Photo of the pump attached. If someone could let me know by looking under their bonnet which port goes where, that would be a great help. Thanks

Genuine Brand New Ford Puma Front Bumper

I've decided to sell my Genuine Brand New Front Bumper. Never been fitted to a car. Bought a couple of years back as I had planned to give my car a front end freshen up. Car now needs money spent for it's MOT, so deciding to sell to free up some funds.

Unique opportunity as you can't buy them new anymore. Has some light storage marks that came with the bumper when I bought it. Nothing that wouldn't be sorted when it's being painted. Bumper comes primed in original Ford packaging. No plastic inserts or lower rubber splitter!

If it doesn't sell I'm more than happy to keep it.

          Post updated to include pictures.

          Offers welcome.

2 silver Pumas both cars complete both runners

I bought these to store them. And reap the rewards when they go to silly money in a few years sadly I've lost my storage space and I need to get rid both 1.7 and I have both logbooks

I'm looking to sell them complete but will start breaking them at the end of the month if I have no joy

Both drove to where they were stores so do run no gear box issues

Only known faults are the usual rear arch rot

The cars are in Walsall near the M6 junction 10

£300 for the pair or 150 each no offers sorry as obviously they will break for a lot more

            Cheers

Remember that from today the fine for getting caught using your mobile phone whilst driving doubles from £100 to £200 and the points also double from 3 to 6.

Not that anyone on here does this, of course.

If you ARE reading this whilst in transit - STOP IT! Scrolling through texts or social media feeds even whilst stationary is also not legal - even if you're stuck in traffic or at the lights and your phone is mounted in a hands-free holder. I've even had a knock on the window from the fuzz before, when PARKED on a petrol station forecourt, handbrake on but with the keys in the ignition.

If you only passed your test within the last two years and get caught, you'll have your license revoked and you'll have to take both practical and theory tests again to get back on the road in your lovely Puma.

                    ford puma 1.7

                    For sale!

Very nice ford puma 1.7, luxury pack.

                    Electric windows.

                    Heated front and rear screen.

                    Electric mirrors.

Very nice two door sports car, for no money at all!

Currently has no mot. Passed the last mot with no advisories.

Recipes for new clutch and new exhaust and rear bushes not long ago.

Loads of old mots and part service history!

                    97,000 miles.

I'm sure this will go through an mot with minor work if any. Previous lady owner looked after it well.

The totally standard 1.7, Yamaha-tuned engine runs sweet.

This car also has the very rare MS Design side skirts and rear bumper!

The car drives sport-on and has one of the best gear boxes going.

You will not find a bad review of the puma any where. It's possibly the best budget sports car around. Voted top gear car of the year when it came out in 1997. 2017 being the 20th anniversary, this car will only appreciate over time!

As Usual for fords, the rear arches are starting to go, as well at the bottom of the front wings. (Pretty sure it would pass an mot)

                    Looking for £275 ovno

                    Collection Happisburgh, Norfolk.

Or can deliver for extra cash around Norfolk and Suffolk.

Ford puma/racing puma rear box 2"

I have for sale a spare stainless steel rear box for a racing puma, this has an original racing puma rear tail pipe welded onto it. The box is a custom made powerflow box for the frp but will obviously fit any puma with a racing puma 2 inch centre section.

I bought this a good few years ago off of a racing puma owner and has just sat in the garage since collecting dust. The original owners only had it on the car for a few months before selling the car and returning to original condition.

It's got a slip over collar so would need the centre section cutting and clamping to suit. £100 ono.

Collection from Rainham in Kent or I can post for £15.

                        Ford Puma Thunder

                        Hi there Guys,

it's a very sad day for me as i am posting my thunder (Cat) for sale.

:( The only reason for selling her is that we are expecting a little one and unfortunately Cat is not what you would call a baby friendly car. I'm looking for around £400 ono if i get around the £400 mark i will MOT her (she currently has no MOT). I have had most of the work done for the MOT but she will still need axle bushes doing. She has had over £500 pounds spent on getting her ready for her mot in the last 3 months (receipts to prove it. (see picture)) Also i have just serviced her.

feel free to ask questions - there's a lot done (so much that if i posted it all we would be here all day haha)

Welded in Harness bar/rear strut brace

Cosmetically shes showing her age, you see those black plastic arch covers? You know exactly what they are hiding. Dash looks like a Christmas tree with ABS & Airbags lights showing because of the brake upgrade & seats respectably. Alternator whines, but you could just tell your mates it's supercharged right?

MOT has just ended. Mechanically its a sound car, but with the ABS & SRS lights on, you'll have to find yourself a friendly MOTer.

Looking for offers. Ive spent around £1,000+ in total, but I fully understand I won't see that all back.

Robert Gibbs created a poll in Ford Puma Owners Group. — Ford Puma Owners Group

                            Ok my fellow puma addicts.

                            I'm just after an opinion.

My puma 1.7 has got a few issues and i'm torn between fixing the issues with my just under 100k engine or swapping my engine out for a good working order 118k engine & gearbox i purchased a year ago for £150.

                            The problems are as follows:

rocker cover gasket knackered resulting in oil dripping over the exhaust manifold. (Smelly) and what seems like reduced mpg.

                            Slipping clutch.

What think is a worn crankshaft bearing, really squeaky on idle.

The cambelt i have no history on so i've purchased a ford cambelt & pulley kit £90

It's sometimes juddery at low revs i'm thinking rear engine mount bushes, worn with age (bit like me)

So adding up all the work that needs doing what do you think is the best way to proceed

A lot of people talk about putting mondeo calipers, carriers and pads with focus discs for the 300mm upgrade. You have to shave the caliper and fit spacers to keep the stock 15" rims. This is what it looks like when you shave the caliper. It is tight but it can be done if you don't want to get bigger rims :) hope this helps someone

Hello, I have two Pumas that I need to get rid off ASAP. I'm willing to remove large parts but I'd also sell them at £100 each to get some money back. Green one: Has done about 140k and has recently had new top mounts all around as well as genuine Ford rear bushes. For its MOT it would need tyres and had some rust scabs on the nearside sill. Has nice non foggy headlights. Silver one: needs more work than the green one and a decent clean but is better cosmetic condition. Its only done 80ish Km but Needs a clutch, rear mounts, rear bushes, CV boot and some welding on an inner rear arch. Has a TAPE ECU. Both rolling on steels with one set of alloys between them and no batteries. Both had sticky electric passenger windows. — Ford Puma Owners Group

Interior is good condition but drivers seat has wear steering wheel is worn and the parcel shelf is broken, will get some more pics if anyone is interested.

Previous owner had cambelt done there should be a receipt to confirm this.

Can let the car go without the interior for £200 I no longer have storage space for this car so it's got to go or it will be getting broken down for spares.

70k miles, service history up to 53k. Body work spot on no rusty arches. New fuel tank fitted, new HCV. Needs new water pump as leaking. Basically I'm in the hole on this car and need to get out. Run out of time, money and my good wife's patience. Before I got this I wanted a rust free example, I got that but wasn't planning on everything else. I've seen much more expensive ones with more miles and rusty as hell. If you have the money and time it's a good un.

So my psychic puma strikes again! With mot due and my rear wiper decides to give up! Am I right in thinking if its present and it doesn't work it'll fail?

What the trouble shooting steps? I think it's the motor and not the stalk assembly as all the others work fine.

The real question do I have to remove it all to put a blanker in there? If so I may aswell replace with the spare motor I have. Tia

does any one know where the crankshaft position sensor is located?

ive got a non starting situation, turning over happy as larry, getting fuel to the rail and it wont start on brake and clutch so pretty sure its a no spark issue, i tested power to the coil which it is getting! so swapped coil still no luck, next step to me would be crank shaft position sensor but i cant find it,

can some one point me towards its location or give me an idea of anything thing else it may be?

Hi puma people, unfortunately my wife came across some frozen mud left by an inconsiderate farmer the other week. I have taken off the wing and bumper to find a bent crossmember, which has slightly lifted he upper frame. Do you think this is repairable? I'm going to get a local bodywork expert over for a quick look but, I'm not entirely hopeful.

I need other opinions, people! Due to money situations, I might not be able to do the full upgrade with my Mondeo calipers!

I do need new discs and pads and the standard calipers have rounded bleed screws.

Should I get the upgraded discs and pads anyway and try and scrape by for another month or just buy standard discs and pads for less price?

If so, are they multi car or on like a classic/laid up policy until you want to drive them again? Got myself a focus diesel for commuting to save putting a million miles on the puma, but I don't want to lock it away in the garage uninsured completely!

I need to pick people's brains for a moment.. so, every so often when I set of in 1st and change to second, when I lift the accelerator off, the car jumps slightly like I dragging the clutch up too quickly or before I even lift it, then the two lights appear on my dash for a moment, abs and traction I think they are. It's not a major jolt its very minor. They also occasionally pop on for a few seconds for no apparent reason too. I doubt it's serious but it's certainly bugging me lol. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!

I have forsale my ford puma 1.7 its a none runner as need head doing and a radiator but dont have the time to do this it would make a good project car wich was my intention but due to working long hours i dont have the time and a few cosmetics needed

Drivers seat due to tear and wear and rear arches but not too bad as most people know they are common on these

There is service history with the car upto 123000 including cambelt at 93000 but due to head needing doing ot worth doing it again its done around 146000 maybe a little wrong due to the battery been flat

The car has the ford f1 style 15 inch rims in good condition and getting rare to get hold of dont want to scrap the car hope somebody could take this on and keep it going or make it there project when the car was running it was run spot on no knocking or banging and had a lot of life in it but due to the radiator going it overheated and warped the head so if anybody was to repair it the head would need skimming

Will upload pics when i get chance cant take any due to it been dark also would rather get rid of the car all in one as i dont have the time to break

I also have some 13 inch xr2i fiesta pepper pot wheels that need refurbed and only 3 have tyres all offers welcome for either the puma or the wheel

Once in a lifetime deal (sort of). Blue silicone induction hose with MAF and hose to throttle body. This has been removed from my puma rally car (just think, you can confidently tell people that you have parts off rally car on your puma!), it also makes your car so fast it can fly (see picture). The only reason for removal is that I have a nice set of jenveys to go on now.

The air filter end is 78mm which is quite a common size for you to add the filter of your choice. The only modification required for this setup is to extend the maf sensor wiring (very easy to do) or with a bit of switching around you may be able to make it fit as it is but I cannot confirm that for certain. What you see is what you get, apart from the rally car of course. £30 plus postage if required.
