68 mustang fastback — Ford FE Big Block Forum

I am thinking of selling one of my 68's. It is a J code fastback originally. Ok I will try to remember everything. First off its a sunlit gold car black guts. Auto. Ok all of that is gone. It's set up for an F.E. iterior is complete. Has T. Branda shelby roll bar. Fold down rear. Is a GT car. All and I mean everything on suspension is new big block stuff. Nothing is used. Factory front disc brakes 9 inch rear 3.70 gear. All stainless brake and fuel lines. New gas tank. Underside is detailed and painted. Car is about 80 85 percent ready for paint. Also has Shelby R style front valance Car comes with complete minus carb- exhaust manifolds 68 gt 390 engine and c6. Both need rebuild but are nice cores. Inside of car is stuffed with new and used parts. TONS OF THEM! I have new in box hooker comp coated headers. This car is stuffed full of parts!!!!!! Car is and could be awesome. I have to many projects. It is in an enclosed trailer will move out for pictures if serious. I might trade for a NICE coupe or 67 Fairlane. I also have 428 SCJ I would sell with for extra cash. Over 30k spent already.

Ford engines and transmissions — Ford FE Big Block Forum

I have a few different ford engines all of them are good rebuildable engines all came out of trucks. Have a 460 and a 390 have another one that came out of a 60's 2 ton truck but not sure on engine size has a 4 speed transmission with pto. Transmissions are both C6s one is for small block shifted a little hard when pulled out the other is for a 460 was told it has a 3500 stall and shift kit but have never put it in anything to verify it. Have other various ford part as well. Open to cash offers or will consider trades.

390 pistons, camshaft, lifters and pushrods. — Ford FE Big Block Forum

    For sale

I have .030 over pistons, camshaft, lifters and pushrods for a 390. They are used, but very nice as they were only run for about 20,000 miles in a 71 f100. Pistons and rings are clean and measure out to 4.080 top and bottom. The pistons are Badger/Clevite pistons from the late 90s, and have a 1.75" compression height. The camshaft appears to be a speed pro from around the same time. Lift is .530 via a quick measurement and the cam is cast with "CWC", EP-19 and 16°. Lifters show practically zero wear as do the pushrods. I would like this stuff to goto someone who can use it. 100$ takes all or will sell separately. Cross posted.

I found a completely rebuilt 390 30 over mild cam and supposedly only 100... — Ford FE Big Block Forum

I found a "completely rebuilt" 390 .30 over, mild cam and supposedly only 100 miles on it. The guy who has it seems like a decent guy but something isn't adding up. It has C6???? R code heads on it and everything looks great, adjustable rockers as well. He claims it's an awesome motor that was too much power for his 67 F100 and he put a stock 390 in its place. For some reason, he took the rocker arm assemblies off but can't seem to find an answer as to why he did that. Brand new motor with 100 miles, pulled to sell but decided to remove most of the externals, rocker arms and push rods but doesn't know why he did that. Hmmmm? Whatcha guys think? He wants a grand for it and swears it's a 450hp brand new motor.

Ok...just bought my first 390. It's in a 75 highboy 4x4. New to FE performance. Looking to up my hp to 400/450. Motor only has 76k miles on it so planning on leaving the bottom end alone. Any input on heads..camshaft..intake and carb would be greatly appreciated. Gonna be a street truck so don't need anything too radical or that will break the bank!

Hi Guys, need help by reading hydraulic roller Camshaft specs.

            Planned was:

            224/230 @ .050", .563"/.563" with 110° LSA

            New suggestion is:

            227/227 @ .050", .570"/.570" lift with 112° LSA

It seems the numbers are nor far from each other, but what would be the difference ?

I am not a quarter mile racer, I would like to have a good allrounder for german autobahn, cruising, stop and go traffic as well and some fun racing at the Nürburgring once a year.

Its more like a pro tourer without the goofy wheels ;)

Here are the other specs in the pictures

1968 427 side oiler — Ford FE Big Block Forum

I've recently had several local offers to purchase my date coded 1968 427 side oiler. Obviously, these period engines are not widely available in the marketplace, so I'm having difficulty considering a reasonable offer. I get it something is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Is 40k a fair offer?

I'm sure this has been asked before but, I did a search and couldn't find anything.

I have a 360 that was rebuilt with about 1000 miles. The rebuilder claimed it has an RV cam. I have a streetmaster intake and Holley carb. Stock exhaust manifolds. I'm not pleased with the power.

What's the easiest and least expensive route to around 350 horsepower.

                  Thanks

Okay guys here's my problem I have a 410 big block in my 1963 Mercury Monterey the problem I'm running into is the car will start fine running fine but as soon as it gets up to Temp the oil pressure starts to drop.

I have replaced the oil pump with a high-pressure one

                    I've added heavier grade oil

As soon as it gets down to 4 or 3 PSI engine starts to shudder and I just turned it off I won't wait till it dies

any ideas on what this might be? and yes I know the Fe engines run very low oil pressure

On buddy's got a 66 tbird in the parts yard, ran the numbers and it's a 390 4barrel. Looks correct except for Chrome covers. Was gonna pick up to rebuild to replace my 63 352. What I'm questioning is the distributor hole in intake seem like it's bigger, no I haven't measured it yet. My worries are it being not the original and it a ft. Any tell tale signs between the 2, or am I just over thinking it.

Have a good hard problem going on, okay so 76 f100 390, not stock had a Electric fuel pump and mechanical one works great, electric one took a crap one day and truck would turn off like it starved for gas, couldn't get it running for atleast 20-30min at the least. Now since that day it starts up every time cold for about 15min then dies and won't turn on for 20-30min. But it seems I'm getting gas? Seems I got spark ? Brand new plugs wires cap msd coil and that square box thing under the hood on the drivers side. Any clues what's going on?

Took apart this engine today for cleaning and inspection. Found the oil passages from the mains to the cam tunnel on #'s 2,3,4&5 bored/reamed oversize. # 1 was not, just cleaned up slightly. I'm aware of the usual practice of slightly chamfering the holes, but not enlarged to this degree. Will this cause any issues?

Here's my FE project - bought this old '62 TBird almost 2 years ago - had sat in a warehouse for over 10 years (not been run or even turned over). After countless hours and several hundred dollars worth of parts (gas tank & sending unit, rebuilt carb, rebuilt brakes, replace tie rod ends, rebuilt brake booster, new master cylinder, etc.), I had a running and stopping car. Only major issue was bad leak from exhaust manifold, which I attempted to fix (but 2 of 4 top bolts broke off).

So, if I had to pull the old 390, might as well get a rebuild? She's up at a shop in the next county - just a basic stock rebuild and hoping to be driving her by spring.

Question for all of you — Ford FE Big Block Forum

                                    Question for all of you.

I know once I get my sideoiler block back from the machine shop Im going to want to build it for another strip engine lol. Was planning on using one of my old steel cranks and a set of lemans rod that I have. Ive already been advised to sell the rods to a ford guy that just "has to have them" and buy a decent set of H-beams (which I tend to agree with).

Im starting to come to the realization that after I buy a set of rods, pistons and have the old crank turned and the whole assembly balanced, I should just go ahead and buy a stroker kit.

My question is cast crank or forged? I feel that a cast crank can handle more than what some people give it credit. Im not looking to build a 8000 rpm engine but it will be up against a 4 speed with slicks.

                                    Any input is valued!

I am down to moderating on one site (antique motorcycles), so I have offered, twice, to help out, with no response from Bob. It's unfortunate that any site needs moderators, but necessary- the key being the definition of "Moderate, and not heavy- handed or partial. It would be a shame if this site folded, it's been pretty good to us, so my offer to help out is still open. Believe me, if you've never done it, moderating is an extremely thankless job, definitely not for the thin-skinned or hot- headed. FEs are in my blood (and all over my shop lol), so I would hate to see a good page go away

Took my sideoiler block to a machine shop 2 hrs south of me. They are known for fixing blocks. Mine has a cracked distributor support. It's a comforting feeling when the owner of the company for 40 years sees the block and automatically knows what it is. He said being a sideoiler block, it's definitely worth fixing. He is going to mag it and also pressure test it seeing it has one sleeve. Very confident with this place. Sitting next to mine is a Brad Anderson aluminum hemi block for repair. Very good sign.

Just bought this offy dual port intake on ebay for $200 "buy it now" with free shipping, it was listed as "intake manifold" , felt lucky to run across it before sold, man I'm stoked!!! never ran one on an FE, but did on a 289 HiPo and it worked really well, can't wait for it to get here, notice it has a spacer plate on it, it won't run correctly on a dual port without carb bolted directly on the intake, so they probably had problems with it running right and listed it cheap to get rid of it, it will be going on a 390, .030 trw L2292 pop-up pistons, solid lifter cam, CJ rods, port and polished large port early heads, which it's going in my 67 shelby clone ragtop, with 4 speed, FE's rule!!!

I'm about ready for my install. I need a little advise. My block is open through the dipstick tube hole next to the oil filter adapter and I also have a 4x4 oil pan without the tube installed in it. Should I plug one over the other? Seems easier to get the short dipstick and tube. How then do I plug the pan and vice versa?

It will be going in a 75 250 w/np435 divorced np205 and 35s

Anyone near Mesa looking for a motor? Ive got a .060 bored 352 with 2 cranks heads and some misc parts I need to get rid of. Just moved and where I originally planned on storing them fell through and can't afford a storage unit and don't have space where I am living. Heads have been surfaced and painted and imhave had a valve job. They just need springs. I have a complete gasket set. The motor has been painted and crank installed, but will probably need to be taken apart and looked over/cleaned up after the move. Misc parts include a iron 4bbl intake, oil pump, rods, rod bearings, 4bbl edelbrock carb and some. Good solid build option. Asking 1700 obo for it all. Local sale only, cant afford shipping.

Had original bearings; normal wear and tear but is not scored or scorched anywhere. It's currently soaked in lube to keep rust away. Main and rod journal measurements are standard. Great crank that's never been turned to use on your next fe project. $80 I'm located in Jacksonville, NC for local pick up or I can shop on your dime.

I just wanted to ask what is a decent choice cam for a stock 1964 390 out of a galaxy would be. I'm going to rering, bearings, gaskets, oil pump,, timing chain and gears and cam. I don't have the 1000s of $'s to invest and just want to make a peppy 390 for a 47 ford coupe with a 3 speed on the tree. I don't plan on boring, stroking and all the other stuff, just freshen it up and give it some more kick for as little as possible because any real build is not in the budget. Sorry if I sound like a jerk or whatever, but every time I talk to someone about fe's it seems like people want me to believe I'm going to hell for not investing a million bucks in it. Thanks

Bid it all the way to $510 at the last seconds....then no payment?!? How do you win a bid at the last minute and not pay right away???? I googled this guy and he doesn't seem to be the person who has a shortage of money. If you bid $500 on an emblem you should be looking at pictures, reading a simple description and knowing what you are buying...not playing games.

I've been pretty convinced it was an ignition problem. Well, I got a Pertronix ignition and coil for Christmas yesterday, spent about 45 minutes or an hour installing them, and the friggin thing runs like brand new! As smooth as a mild-can 390 can run I believe. It's nice getting the car back on the road!

My 69 F250 at idle when the oil is cold the gauge stays in the normal area (using stock in dash gauge so no numbers) but once it gets up to temp the needle drops below the normal area.Odd part is the engine sounds fine. No tapping or clattering. I'm running Royal Purple 10W40 with a zinc additive. I'm just want to know if it's fine or should I change something? I have a new oil pressure sender that i'm gonna throw in tomorrow to see if makes a difference.

Hooker used to make a set for a FE in 57-59 ford cars but they would be hard to find. I built mine out of 55-57 Chevy BBC fenderwell headers with FE flanges and some assorted J-bends after talking to Dan Parson Jr. . Option 2 would be to take 2wd truck headers and flop them side to side and add tube to them.
